Nothing left to spend! A new plastic moulding business attempts to start up but with all available cash spent on production machinery and set up costs realises that the machinery can’t be operated without a supply of chilled water! Staff are walking out! A multi-story building in London, has a rooftop chiller which suddenly fails. Service4Chillers turns up 3 hours later, finds both compressors seized and compounds the bad news that there is a 4 week turn around on remanufactured compressors and a 3month waiting time for a new one. Within 12 hours there’s a temporary chiller in the car park and flexible hoses running up to the roof. We even had the scaffolding erected to support the hose up to the roof. The close control air conditioning within a major banks data centre is failing, servers are starting to crash and thousands of people are about to go unpaid. The solution – three 100kW temporary chilled water air handling units and a 300kW chiller are quickly delivered and installed around the building with flexible ducting pumping chilled air through windows into the building.  People get paid, banks retain customers.

 

 

We’ve insufficient chilled storage space and Easter Eggs will melt! A well known chocolate manufacturer won a major supermarket order, but, too late realised he had insufficient chilled storage space and that without it, eggs would melt prior to their timed collection. The solution – there was an adjacent empty building which was turned into a temporary chilled store by siting four 50kW chilled water air handling units within the space, and connecting them back to a 200kW chiller in the car park with flexible hose. Happy supermarket and the manufacturer gets a repeat order the following year.

 

 

Server room air conditioning being replaced.  A chiller and close control system maintaining safe working temperatures in a University research centre server room was being replaced, but the servers themselves could not be shut down. The solution – 20 chilled water fan coil units were located around the server room with flexible hoses run beneath the raised floor to a 400kW chiller outside. Old system stripped out and replaced, no interruption to research.

A short term need for a chiller. A manufacturing company might have high seasonal demands, or the occasional trial run but doesn’t have the spare chiller capacity in house. By hiring, you only pay for when you need it.

 

Similarly, the air conditioning in a building, whether providing comfort or server room cooling, might cope adequately during the year with the exception of high summer. Rather than buy and install additional cooling, or indeed replace the complete system, it could be more cost effective to simply hire the extra cooling capacity when required.

 

Where seasonal or peak demands lead to regular requirements for a temporary chiller, it can be advantageous to have connections made into the existing chilled water pipework, along with an adjacent electrical supply, to make the installation of a temporary chiller so much quicker.

 

Where the installed chiller is performing some critical function and failure of it would cause real business distress, pre-install a set of connections into the chilled water pipework and make an electrical supply available at some point where a temporary chiller could be installed. When the need then arises, the temporary chiller can be installed much faster.
